OCB is a French paper maker, and its papers come in two main sizes: 1¼ and slim king size. Each size comes in several papers (Premium, Bamboo, Organic Hemp and X-Pert), and the slim king sizes come with or without tips.
OCB size chart
| Size | About (mm) | About (in) | Good for | OCB papers in this size |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1¼ | 78 × 44 | 3.1 × 1.7 | The everyday size | Premium, Bamboo, Organic Hemp, X-Pert |
| Slim King Size | 109 × 44 | 4.3 × 1.7 | Long, slow-burning joints | Premium, Premium + tips, Bamboo, Bamboo + tips, Organic Hemp |
| X-Pert Slim King Size | 109 × 40 | 4.3 × 1.6 | A thinner joint with less paper | X-Pert Slim King Size |
Sizes are approximate. Brands cut their papers a millimeter or two differently, and the same size can vary slightly between batches.
Which OCB size should you get?
1¼ is the everyday size. Slim king size is the same width but longer, so it's the one to grab for a longer joint. OCB slim king packs usually hold 32 leaves.
X-Pert is OCB's narrow cut: the slim king X-Pert is about 4 mm narrower than a standard king size slim, so you roll a slimmer joint with less paper.
With tips: the "+ Tips" packs include a booklet of filter tips, so you have everything in one pack.
How much does each size hold?
A rough guide for ground flower: a single wide holds about 0.3 to 0.5 g, a 1¼ about 0.5 to 0.75 g, a king size slim about 0.75 to 1 g, and a full king size or 1½ about 1 to 1.5 g. How tight you roll changes it more than anything.
OCB vs RAW vs Elements sizes
| Size | OCB | RAW | Elements |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1¼ | 78 × 44 mm | 78 × 44 mm | 78 × 44 mm |
| Slim king size | 109 × 44 mm | 110 × 44 mm | 110 × 44 mm |
| Narrow slim king | X-Pert, 109 × 40 mm | None | None |
| King size (wide) | Not carried | 110 × 53 mm | 110 × 53 mm |
The big brands cut their 1¼ and slim king papers to almost the same size, so if you know your size in one brand, it carries over. Where OCB stands out is the X-Pert cut. See the RAW size chart and the Elements size chart for the full lineups.
Which OCB paper for which smoker
| You want... | Get |
|---|---|
| The classic thin OCB | Premium |
| Unbleached, strong for its thickness | Bamboo |
| Organic, natural hemp | Organic Hemp |
| Less paper in every joint | X-Pert |
| Everything in one pack | Premium or Bamboo slim king + tips |
What the X-Pert cut changes
X-Pert papers are made from flax and cut narrower than standard papers. Less paper wrapped around the same flower means less paper taste and a slimmer joint that burns slower. It takes a little more care to roll, because there's less overlap to tuck and seal. If you already roll tight, you'll like it. If you're still learning, start with Premium.
Rolling with OCB
- Grind medium and spread it evenly along the crease.
- Add a filter tip at one end; slim king packs with tips include them.
- Roll the paper back and forth between your fingers to pack it into shape.
- Tuck the near edge under, roll up and seal with a light lick on the gum line.
Buying by the box
We sell OCB by the quarter box (6 booklets), half box (12) or full box (24). The full box is the lowest price per booklet if you roll every day.
Fixing common slim-paper problems
- Runs down one side: the flower wasn't spread evenly. Spread it the full length of the crease before you roll, and turn the joint as you light it.
- Keeps going out: rolled too loose or the flower is very moist. Roll tighter, or switch to Organic Hemp, which has a bit more body.
- Won't seal: too much or too little moisture on the gum. A single light lick is enough.
Tips: in the pack or your own?
The slim king "+ Tips" packs pair every booklet with tips, which is handy on the go. If you like a specific tip, buy papers without them and add RAW pre-rolled tips or a wider tip for a smoother pull.
